P. AND A. SOCIETY.

The following report will be presented to the members of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society at its annual mejting, to be held at Carterton on the 23rd instant:—

Gentlemen.—ln layintj before subscribers the annual statement of accounts made up to March 81st, 1891, the Committee have much pleasure in reporting the satisfactory progress made by the Society duriug the past year. The Horse Parade held this year at the Taratahi Sale Yards was very poorly attended, and it is to be regretted that comparatively little interest is taken in this 6vent by both owners of stallions and breeders. The Bam Fair was held on February 12, and as regards the numbers and quality of sheep entered, was a marked success. The Annual Show was held on October 80th, 1890, and in all respects was highly successful, all important classes of stock and produce being well represented: the display of implements being a great feature, and entries being 711, by far the largest number of exhibits ever on the show ground. The committee have pleasure in stating that the last show is generally admitted to have been fur superior to any previous one, showing a marked improvement in almost nil classes ; and it is a circumstance on which the district may be congratulated, that visitors from a distance and competent judges were unanimous in opinion thit the Wairarapa has proved beyond a doubt its not being behind any district in New Zealand.

The Committee beg to acknowledge the liberality again evinced by donors of private prizes, and are fully aware of the importance of this as an element to the success of the show. They also thank those gentlemen who officiated as judges for their careful and efficient assistance on that day. The Bank overdraft has been reduced by £95 10s and the payments to the Investment Society by £22 6s, making an increase on last year's profits of £ll7 16s. In consequence of the departure of Mr Seed, Mr Ewan has been asked to audit the accounts in hi* stead. The meeting will bo called upon to elect a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Auditor, and five members of committee, who retire in accordance with the rules.—W, 0. Buchanan, President.
