The Kakanui Enquiry.
Donedin, April 8. The Kakanri enquiry was resumed this afternoon and concluded, so far as the evidence available is con* cerned. Joseph Hatch, ownor of the ketch gave evidence whiob in the main was somewhat the earn# as his statement made at his public meeting at Invercargill, He said he did not think that the Kakanui was a fit boat to go to the islands. H%, would hare gone down in her but would not have come back. Ha referred to a conversation with. Captain Best, and stated that the Captain said that if the men on the Island would not come away, he had 1 instructions not to supply them witlt any stores, which meant the braking up of the shore pa rty. Subsequently Mr Chamberlain, who was recalled,, stated that he bad given the owner instructions not tc take cargo to tha Island, or take away any. He had no conversation with Captain Beit Smith and Qiluxour, who had been on the Island, alsb gave evidence, and were cross-examined by Mr HatobThe enquiry was theiv adjourned till Tuesday nest.
