which eight horses started, a pony trot, a match between Waddington's -Goas-you-Please" and Shaw's "Bedlead," and, to finish, a £ mile race for which six horses started, and the winner turned up in Shaw's Poppit. The meeting was one of the most enjoyable ever held on the Opaki course, and we trust that out of this will grow a Trotting Club in the Wairarapa, Tho following are the events in the order in which they were run. Match between Jumbo and Young Berlin, for £SO a side, about 2 \ miles in harness. Yatea'Jumbo 1 Falloon Bros* Younsj Berlin ... 2 Young Berlin took the. lead at the start and led 6y several lengths to the f mile post, when Jumbo caught and led him. until the $ mile post was again reached, when Berlin caught up, and the pair trotted side by side for about £ mile, when B&rlin brofce and Jumbo coming away won by about three lengths. Had Berlin not broken the finish would have beenmuch closer. Once Jumbo started in » canler, but soon settled down and trotted the whole distance without a break. There is no doubt that Jumbo's win was due to the splendid handling of his driver, Mr T. Shaw. The other horse was also well driven by his trainer and part owner, Mr J. Falloon, and was driven in one of Fraser'a patent ball bearing American Sulkies, made at the Wairarapa Blacksmith Co.'s shop in Masterton. i The time occupied in the trot was 8 | min. 46 sees. Match between Eocket and Clara, for £lO a side, about 2 miles. H. Nees' Clara 30 sec ... (Nees) 1 H. Yates' Rocket 1 Wadham's Topsy 2 Compton's Peggy _3 This race needs very little description, for Topsy, who received 30sec Btarfc, led for about three parts of the distance, when Rocket caught her, and the race was never in doubt, Rocket finally winning easily by several lengths. Time 7min ssec. Match between Shaw's Red-lead and Go-as-you-please, 1£ miles, in Harness. Waddington's Go-as-you-please 1 Shaw's Red lead 2 Waddington's horse led all the way and won easily.
