London, March 25. The Agents-General are pressing Sir John Pender to begin the cable reductions on the 10th April, but it is more likely to be the Ist of May before they come into effect. The delay is owing to parleying with Russian and Indo-European lines. Replying to his congratulations, the superintendent at Paris end stated that telephonic communioa-j tion with Australia had been proved to be quite a scientific possibility. Vocal music of an opera played in Paris can be distinctly heard through the telephone in London. It is generally believed that Madame Melba is meant. The syndicate which has been formed to work iron deposit) in the lllawarra distrust, New South Wales, proposes to seek the co-oper-ation of Sir Thomas Lewis and other large ironmasters to raise a million of capital. Prompt action will be taken so as to provide one-third of the million immediately. It is stated that the Fenians are reorganising in London, and the Goyernment are accordingly taking precautions. The Standard's Rome correspondent telegraphs that His Holiness the Pope is consulting with Archbishop Walsh as to the best way to maintain a united Catholio party in Ireland, and that the Pope suggested the removal of Parnell irom the leadership. At a meeting of Italians in London
