ENGLISH. London, March 18. In a paper read before the Colonial Institute, Sir E N Braddon, Agentgeneral for Tasmania, urged the Crofters to develop the Tasmanian and deep sea fisheries, and he also advocated the export of timber and apples from Tasmania to Great Britain. The Australian auxiliary squadron will assemble at Spithead about the middle of April for the purpose of making trial trips and testing their torpedo equipment. At the same time the vessels will be inspected by the Colonial authorities and the Admiralty. The Supreme Court has granted a writ of habeas corpus in the case of Mrs Jackson, who wa3 forcibly abducted by her husband. Owing to a formal difficulty in connection with the reduced cable tariff between Great Britain and the colonies, its inauguration has been postponed until the Ist May, and may possibly be later.
