TENUI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent)

The Tenui school was examinee on Thursday last by Mr Flemrning Inspector, when 80 per cent passec the required standards. On Friday the Whakataki aided school was examined, the percentage of passes being 90. On Saturday the Grassendale aided school was examined, but the result is not yet to hand. Considerable interest is being taker in the annual school treat and distribntion of prizes, to be held oe Friday, 3rd April. A general reunion takes place on this occasion. Both old and young are looking forward to the event. I notice posters are out, and friends are respectfully invjted to assist in providing the necessary refeeshi^gnts. A meeting of the Rifle Cljxlj pommittee was held at the Marine Hotel. Whakataki, on Saturday evening last, Mr A. McHutchon in the chair. The Secretary {reported that the ball had been a great success. After paying all liabilities a credit balance was shown of eight pounds odd. It was decided to haw the usual prize firing at Easter, and the date was fixed foi Saturday, 28th inst., the ranges to be three, four, and five hundred yards, seven shots at each range, prizes to Jjo in ammunition, members to fire at Tenui or as most conveniHume, offering to n rifles. The meeting was unanimously of opinion that this should be adopted in place of the "old pipe," the obsolete Snider, and it was decided to call a general meeting at an early date to settle the, matter. Owing to the heavy downpour of rain on Sunday ana Monday, the Foresters decided to postpone their sports for a day to enable the ground to be got in good order again. Some dissatisfaction has been caused by this announcement, but the matter appears to have been unavoidable. Quite a crowd of visitors are here from Mastertoa and other places.
