DUMMYISM.

The Crown Lands Department having forwarded, circulars to the various .Land Boards throughout the Colony, requesting that active steps be taken to suppress dummyism, the Wellington Land Board has passed the following resolution :—" That after considering the circular re prevention of dummjism,dated February 6th, 1891, from the Crown Lands Department to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, which has beenreferred to by the Board, this Board begs to call the Minister' 3 attention to the fact that it has been forward in taking action against dummyism to the fullest extent of the power they possessed, as shown by the correspondence which has passed! between the department and the Board; that this Board forwarded to the Department on the 12th November, 1890, a schedule of cash purchases, surrounded by suspicious circumstances, that appeared to require investigation, and asked the Crown Solicitor's advice as to the power of the Board to deal with tbem. No answer has as yet been received Iby the Board to this request; that this Board has taken stringent step's in the matter of the South Puketoi selection ■, that the rangers have also been instructed to report any suspicious circumstances which have come under their notice. Jf by legislation nest session the Board can obtain the powers it has been asking for, it will be only too willing to exercise them in attempting to gtainp out dummyism,"
