CARTERTON-TUESDAY. (Before Colonel Roberts, R.M.) WIFE DESERTION. Ellen Dew v George Dew. Wife desertion. Mr Beard ior complainant. The evidence adduced went to'show that defendant had been absent from his home since November, 18.88, afcd had only contributed L 9 towards the support of his wife 'and family "of eight children. The complainant asked that an order be made for the defendant to contribute support of his wife and family. ™ Ellen Dew, sworn, deposed that the defendant was her lawful husband. They were married 22 years ago at the Taita. Her husband left her on the 9th November, 1888, for the pur* pose of getting employment, and that was the first she had seen of him since. He had only contributed L 9 towards the support of herself aad family up to the present time. She was getting 7s 6d a week from the Benevolent Society, and some assistance from her brothers. She had eleven children, and was maintaining seven of them.

In answer to Mr Apjptbn, counsel for the defendant, tbc complainant stated that when her. husband first left her she did not think that hefwaa going to desert her in the way hie'had done. .The last money she, received from him was in June,Ußß9, which she acknowledged by letter. She never heard anything more from him till the present time.
