j Mr H S Fish, M.H.E., addressed his constituents this evening. H referred in strong terms to the appointments to the Council, and criticised the action of the Governor in making these, lie justified the action taken with regard to the honorarium, and contended that the payment oi members was necessary. He said there ought to be a searching enquiry into the Kakanui disaster, and read a telegram from the Premier, who stated that the paper which led to the late Government taking action, contained statements of a libellous nature, for which the Government would be legally responsible. He considered the Government should redeem its pledge to do away with the property tax and substitute a land and income tax. He opposed the purchase of private lands, and thought it would not be right to create the Maori landlord class. If borrowing were necessasy it should be done in the cheapest, that is the London market, A vote of thankß and confidence wa3 qarried.
