Mr K. V. Smith, on behalf of himself and Mr A. Mr Thomas Mackay, called by Mr Smith, stated that lie bad valued section 119 at 22s 6d per acre, whilst Mr Smith was paying 90s per acre to tbe Board. He valued section 117 at from IGs Cd to & 1 per acre, for which Mr Smith, wag paying £1 15s.

Mr W.M'Gruddy, owner of section 114, Block XIV, Mangaone, stated that he was paying 30s per acre for his land, in the carrying capacity of which he had been greatly disap~ pointed. The Government had promised to make roads, but had not done so. He had brought the land without seeing it, and it was not as he expected. The land adjoining him had been sold at 12s 6d, After holding the land for six years he had still to pack his goods on to the section. Mr Thomas Mackay stated that he valued the section at about £1 per acre. Mr Heckler, owner of section 113, Block XIV, Mangaone, asked for a further reduction of his rental. Mr Marchant explained that as a reduction of 2s 6d had already been made he was doubtful whether the case could be re-opened. Mr Heckler stated that he had objected to his valuation as early as possible, as he considered it excessive. His land was the roughest in the district. Mr Mackay had valued it at £1 per acre in standing bush and £3 when improved. He pointed out that at the Board's last re-valuation some of the best sections had been reduced more in proportion than the inferior ones. Applications for reductions were also made by Messrs Macara, J ohnston, Bndden, andseveral others, and the Commissioners promised to give the matters the fullest consideration and report their decision to the Board.
