PAHIATUA.

Mr Jensseq, of the well-known firm of Moller, Jenssen, and Coy., yesterday met with an accident which might have resulted very seriously. When riding a fresh young horse through the Gorge, the animal shied at some falling stones, and he was thrown violently against the hank. Although somewhat stunned and bruised we are happy to say his injuries are only trivial. An ample application of sticking plaister and arnica will enable him to present a decent appearance in a few days.
Messrs Kidd and Son have com* menced energetic operations as blacksmiths and wheelwrights in commodious premises adjoining Mr Hughes' boarding house, which they have just erected. Another sign of the rapid advancement of oar thriving township. The Pahiatua County Council meet on Saturday next, when the consideration of several large forming and metalling contracts will be gone into. The roads generally, around the district, are daily becoming more fit for traffic, and the coming winter will not find us quite so deep in the mire. Building is going on apace. Mr James Macdonald has commenced rather a prettily designed dwelling house on the Tiraumea side of the town. The house has quite- a commanding aspect as it overlooks the town itself. Mr Gould, solicitor, is also building upon the Tiraumea road, which is now becoming quite the fashionable J part of the city. Mr Hirst, of, Woodville, is the contractor.
I understand that Mr Duncan Fuckle has just sent through the Manawatu Gorge a mob of 1300 sheep to to the Longburn Freezing Works. The necessity for the completion of the Palmers tonPahiatua Range Road is becoming more apparent every day, '
