PAHIATUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) j Tlie long felt want of a local Bank ' has been supplied, the Bank of New Zealand having now arranged to open daily for business from to-day. An interesting ceremony took place here yesterday, when Mr Chas Winton and Miss Alice Baron were united m matrimony by the Bev W. E. Paige, who is on a visit to the district. This is tho first marriage wuich has been celebrated here in the orthodox fashion in the Church itself. The happy event was made the occasion of a large gathering of friends and relations at the residence of the brido's parents, where dancing and other amusements were indulged in until the small hours. The contract for the felling of a further portion of the railway line between Eketahuna and Woodville ia now out. The question of the extension of that line js now assuming a definite shape. We learn that Messrs Jones and Hunter intend putting an opposition coach on the road between Woodville and Eketahuna shortly. A meeting of the Mangatainoka School Committee was field on Saturday evening, r J?ha bu^juess

seemed chiefly to consist of an enquiry into the result which attended the spirited endeavors of the irrepressible Mr Jessop in collecting subscriptions for the late school tieat. Mr Jessop is a member of the committee. The amount uccounted for (in the opinion of the committee) did not seem commensurate with the amount of labor expended by Mr Jessop in collecting it. Indeed, definite information was in the possession of the Chairman that more than the amount accounted for had been subscribed, and as Mr Jessop had persistently ignored the invitation of tne committee to "cash up - ' or explain the matter, a motion that his action in collecting monies and expending it without the committee's consent was deserving of grave censure, and requesting him to resign his position as a member of the committee, was unanimously carried. A further matiou that the attention ot "the authorities" be directed to the matter, was also carried. Messrs Vou Keden and R. S. Hawkins were nominated for the vacant seats on the Education Board.
