Harvesting operations in the district surrounding Masterton are now being vigorously conducted, tho weather bein» all that could be desired. We have received a communication from '"Shaughiaun," of Greytown, with reference to the proposed Opera of the Greytown Dramatic Club, but as we cannot see that its publication will attain any desirable end, we liaye considered it our duty to suppress it. The Hon. the Minister tor Public Works has informed Mr Hogg that there are no funds at present available the completion of tho Eketahuna-Woodville railway. Out of a consignment of 1574 stoats aDd weasels forwarded to the order of the Wairarapa North Rabbit Board, by the Tongariro, only 42 have arrived alive. In the R. M- Court, Masterton, yesterday afternoon, before Colonel Roberts, R. M., a case Pownall y. McAnulty, in which the plaintiff claimed £3 for professional fees, was heard. It appeared from the evidence that McAnulty purchased the lease of a section of land at Eke tab una from Mr. D. E. Toohill, and instructed the latter to employ Mr. Powuall to prepare deeds of transfer, etc. This was done, and Mr. Pownall sent in his account £3. For the defence it was alleged that Toohill was authorised to expend only 30s. on a lawyer, that a, solicitor at Eketahuna had undertaken to do the work for this amount, and that the charge i of Mr. Pownall were exorbitant. The Bench gave judgment for the plaintiff for 30s. and costs, maintaining that Toohiil was the party responsible for the remainder of the account.
The Greytown correspondent of the Evening Pram says :—Some sensation was caused in Morrison's Bush about 10.30 laHt night by a veritable ghost putting in an appearance just at the mrn on Kempton's Road before taking round on the road leading South, It appears that a party of three ladies and a gentleman were returning to Greytown from Morrison's Bush. "About the time named when on coming into Kempton's Line the aforesaid "gent" was dis* covered between the tree;? just in the position where a man at ono time hung himself. Fortunately the ladies carried stout hearts and did not faint nor crybut laughed loudly at the ghost and cried out '• Very well done," otc, but the gentleman promises to carry a " small corapanioa" next time he travels that way with a view of finding out whether his ghostship is bullet proof or nut. In the meantime I should recommend the myth, or what not, to make itself scarce, or somebody might have to run it into the hospital with a broken limb.

The men were put through their facings by Sergeant Major Bezar. A match between a team of Masterton cricketers aud the Carterton Club will be played on the show grounds, Carterton on Saturday next, commencing at two o'clock sharp. The following team will represent Carterton : Beechey, Darrock, Bunny, Eenall, W. H. King, G. King, McKenzie (2), C. Reid, .Nicholson, Grigg.—Emergencies, Mercer, Levick, Deihl, Booth. A Napier paper gives the following as the latest instance of tariff interpretation .• "Hogskin for saddles comes in free, buc a certain saddler got a notice that he had to pay duty to clear a line of that article I" "Why?" said he amazed. "Sir" said the sapient Customs man, "that invoice says so many pieces of pigskin, and as that isn't in the tariff you must pay ! " R.
