PAHIATUA CASES.
(By Telegraph.) (From Our Own Correspondent.) Pahiatoa, Wednesday. In the Police Court yesterday, before Messrs Hughes and Reese, Justices, William Higgins was charged with assaulting John Summerfield in the village settlement on the 23rd inst. The evidence proved there existed an old grudge between the parties, and the Bench dismissed the case, each party to pay his own costs. Walter George Willoughby was charged with forging and uttering Cha3 Avery's name to four cheques on theßank of New Zealand, Lower Hutt, for thirteen pounds, nine pounds, eleven pounds fourteen shillings, and eight pounds nine. Constable Cooper prosecuted. In the absence of the Bank manager no evidenco was adduced on che charge of forgery. Evidence that the four cheques were uttered was given, and the accused was committed to take his trial in the Supreme Court at Wellington.
