Tho Railway Strike. Glasgow afloetofi. London, January 17. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has sent a second donation of £BOOO to assist the men on strike in Edinburgh.
January 18. At a meeting of tha directors of various Scotch railway companies, a proposal to compromise matters in connection with the strike was declined, The men remain firm, and the directors are also determined not to give way. Owing to the strike, the export shipping trade has been suspended. A general strike is threatened in support of the railway men. Rioting has taken place at Glasgow.
Three hundred coal lumpers attacked the Shipping Federation's men on board the Scotland in the Royal Albert Docks. The latter fought vigorously with firearms, picks and crowbars, finally repelling their assailants. Fortunately no harm resulted from the shooting. The dockers begin the work of organising the rural laborers on Monday.
