The autumn show of the Maßterton Horticultural and Industrial Society will be held on Wednesday, 25th February, The services in the local Presbyterian Church were conducted yesterday by the Rev. For some time back the Working Committee of the (ireytown Forester's Hall have had under discussion several plans for its improvement, and. have finally decided upon making extensive alterations. The entrance will be improved by the addition of a substantial porch. New and suitable scenery will bo provided, thus making the hall a decided acquisition to the town. We are informed that tenders will be called at once to make the required alterations. Though the Wbitaker-Hutcliison libel action is now set down for trial on the 3rd of February, it is yery improbable it will be heard on that date, because an appeal has been initiated bv the plain* tiff against the order made by the Chief Justice in Chambers, allowing Mr Hutchison's pleas, implicating Sir Harry Atkinson and Mr Mitchelson, to stan d. This appeal is to be anmed in the first Banco Bitting after the law vacation, which does not expire until 31st inst. The main case of course cannot be proceeded with till the minor point is decided.
