BANQUET TO MR BUCHANAN

[by xblegraph,] (From Our Own Correspondent). Greytown, Saturday. The banquet m honor of Mr Buchanan, our popular M.H..R,, took place last night at the Palace Hall, Grey town. Although the evening was wet a fair number of settlers, (about one hundred and twenty) attended, representing all parts of the valley. The ladies—in number about twenty—looked on at the proceedings from the gallery. The chair was taken by Mr J, P. Russell, supported by Mr Jas Baillie, and the vice chair by Mr Wm. Booth, supported by Messrs N. Grace and D. McMaster. After the supper, which reflected great credit upon the caterer, Mr Hammerich, the following toasts were proposed :—Her Majesty the Queen and Royal Family, fcLis Excellency the Governor, New Zealand Parliament, Army and Navy, Guest of the evening, Mr Henry Bunny, pastoral . and agricultural interests, trade and commerce,friendly societies, the ladies, the press, and Mine Host. During the evening songs were contributed by Messrs Baillie, Hunn, Duff, Sparks, and Moncrieff, At a late hour a most enjoyable and enthusiastic gathering was brought to a close.
