The honor of first introducing rabbits into the Wairarapa is due to Mr S. Gates, whilst insectivorous bit da and deer were first imported by Mr C. E. Garter. The Committee appointed at the meeting held in Masterton recently to consider the question of irrigation has pot succeeded in collecting sufficient funds to undertake the preliminary survey. Altogether £2O ha 3 been subscribed, whereas the amount required is £4O. Very little interest in the matter appears to have been taken by the farmers in the district. «
