MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The oidinaryfortnigbtly meeting of the Masterton forongh Council was held in the Ohinbers last evening, there being preset His Worship the Mayor and Crs Terry, E Chamberlain, Cullen, Eton, and Kenall. The minutes of the previous meeting were read anil confirmed. CoRREII'OXfcENCE. From tho Town Lauds Trustees, offering to contribute half cost of forming footpath i» Bannister Street. —Received. From Grey Valfey Coal Co. re coal. —Received. From Morris and Fake, Pahiatua, asking for information re price of coke. —Received, Frome Auditor-General, forwarding audited balance sheet for past year. —Received. Balance Sheet. The balance sheet for the half year ending September 31st was read and laid on the table. An account for £8 6s 8d for the auditing of the balance sheet by the Auditor-General was passed for payment. Gas Committee. The report of the meeting of the 'ias Committee was read and adopted. Works ano Finance. The report of the special meeting of he Works and Finance Committees vas also read and adopted. The Borough Surveyor reported tint the premises of Messrs C Smith ad Co. in Queen Street were now seure, excepting in case of severe ea-thquakes. He also asked if pemission had been given to reidents in Short Street to fence off tin road.

OptMNAKY, On the motlion of Cr Cullen a committee consisting of the Mayor, and Ors Eton, Chamberlain, and the mover was appointed to wait uDon residents with refbreDco to the consumption of gas.

It was decided that the Waipoua bridge, which was in a dangerous slate, be at once repaired. The Town Clerk reported that a large number of street lauips within the Borough were brokep It was decided that the lamps be repaired by the lighter at a cost of 30$. .Notice of —* Tho Mayor stitefr-*th'aThe bad interviewed Mr Renall, who had aqreed to give a permanent supply of water to tbe Borough for the sum of j)2O per annum, There was one difficulty, and that was if Or Renall made the contract with the Council he would have to resign his seat. This might be got over bj Or Renall appointing someone to take over the supply, Cr Renall: My son Frank can take over the supply, and I will givo tbe guarantee,

The Mayor gave notice to move at next meeting that the agreement originally entered into with Mr Renall be completed. Cr Renall stated that he had seen by the Daily that some damage was done to the footpaths in Lincoln road through the water. He would suggest, if this was true, that the channels be cleaned out.
