Mr Murdoch and another had a lively experience on Saturday last ■when returning from Pabiatua in a trap hired from Mr Jones, of Eketahuna, The bolt connecting the shaft with the body of the vehicle came out on one side and dropDed on the horse's heels. The result was tnat the horse bolted andthe , stranger was thrown out on the ground a while, followed suit, but stick to the reins. Eventually the horse was stopped, but not before* the trap was completely •wrecked. The horse was not hurt. The two occupants escappd with a few bruises. Murdoch says that if he only hadamanwithhimto pull on one rein while he stuck to the other he believed the horse would have been stopped. As it was, he could only hold one rein nnd the| horse would not remain on the road

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE From Mr Marchant, re accrued thirds of Uarraud's secticn. .From same, re special interest and the proposed expenditure of L 7 on bridges as recommended by the Board. . From Mr Ainsworth, notifying the Board that there were four chains of road in his district in such a state that it was impossible for settlers to i£i get timber on their land for building or fencing purposes. From Mr Jannett, re Smith's line, stating that 8 chains are completed, and that be is unable to go on with the work at the price contra ctedfor. Wellington No 1, Hepty's road : J Dawson (held over) L 39 7; Shehyn and Co., L 82 5; Woolf and Co., L4Ol. 147 chains metalling , cul verts, ' Mangaone road:—Martin Kerins, L 229 5 to stand over to a full meeting J of the Board. All other contracts were withdrawn except the tender of Mr Kerins for 147 chains of formation, bridging etc., Central Valley road, at L4Bl. Aa there were not sufficient funds available, resolutions were passed that Mr Kmg communicate with the tenderers &s to the construction of a smaller portion of the roads. Deputation. Mr Shehyn waited on the Board falling the line through his as he will be compelled to to keep his cattle off the i railway line. It was resolved that the tender handed in by Mr Shehyn at a former meeting of the Board, namely, Ss Cd per chain, be accepted. The Board then adjourned,
