A Strange Case.
iNVEßtiAitfin, December 17, A peculiar termination to an information for perjury occurred at Goro to day. Thos, . Green, an auctioneer and a. well-known public man, was charged on the information of T, "J3, Mortimer with having committed perjury in the. hearing of an action for the recovery of the price of a horso. Messrs Macgibbon (Mayor elect,) and Dolamore (Mayor) were on the bench, and counsel objected to the latter abdicating, The Benoh overruled tho objection, but adjourned till the afternoon for the presence of Mr Revell, 8.M,, asn witness, On resuming, counsel for the informant contended, that Mr Dolamore could not sit on the bench, his • term of office having expired at midday. The Bench aijain overruled the objection and counsel declined to proceed,' costs heing given against his client. Mr Green has laid an information against Mortimer for' sending, or causing to be sent, a bogus telegram purporting to be from MrTaggart, of Dunedin, instructing Mr Green to buy the horse in question, which was then m Mortimer's possesion, at a big figure, The hor?e itself was somewhat of a mystery, having won the Winton Trot as a maiden last autumn, while it .seems pretty certain that it had been a very ■ fair performer in j Canterbury in previous years under another name,
