We do not grudge MrPownall his victory I It has been fairly won and will we trust be used in 'the best interests of the town. If so,-irres-pective of party differences we shall give iiis administration a cordial support, The Mayor of Masterton should possess the confidence and respect of every : burgess; Mr G. Heron has enjoyed such confidence and respect in a full measure, and we trust Mr Pownall in his turn will he as fortunate. Evon Mr Pownall's opponents in the late contest will enjoy a certain satisfaction in seeing a young New Zealander coming -to tho front in a municipal race. The future of the colony depends very niuoh on the young New Zealanders, and we for one like to see them .get fair play. We do not remember any local election in Masterton in which so much good feeling has been displayed on both sides, and we cheerfully accept the verdict of the electors.
