CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
Annual Ganeral Moating of the : Wftiraraja Caledonian, Sooloiy. The annual meeting of the above named Society was held at Mr Elkins Club Hotel on Saturday evening last, Mr T. Brown (President) occupying the chair, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, The report and balance sheet (as published in another column) were submitted to the meeting, The report stated that the year's operations had not been favorable, chiefly owing to the laok of interest members appeared to take in the welfare of tbo Society, but although the Society was in debt the assests woald moro than cover liabilities. Mr Lowea asked if the balance sheet before them included the ball accounts.
Mt Sellar informed Lira that x the ball accounts bad boon kept separate! From a financial point of view it had not been a success. Tha liabilities 'wero XG 15s 9d above tho receipts, It was decided to take. both, accounts together, the balanco sheet then being adoptedi
Mr Osborne moved that tho balance sheet be published once in each of the daily papers. Carried.
The Chairman suggested proceeding with the election of new iifcerß.
Mr Lowes that bofort doing so, they oi'jj'ht to do something towards clewing up their liabilities, It others would come forward he Wi'idbe willing to make one to 'guarantee an overdraft, so that these outstanding accounts night be paid. The Secretary pointed out that subscriptions in arrears, which were good on the list, wero nearly' enough to meet the deficit. ••' ■ ■<
Mr Buick thought they: might as well pay. their debts and wind up the Society, (Cries of 'No I No!')'. Mr Sellar said that it was not surprising that the ball., had' not paid. He had been informed; that tho Wellington Society lost "about, £77 by their last ball,
Mr Lowes said they ought to 1 pay their accounts, and he would more (if it was agreeable and not that be wished to force them) that Messrs T, Brown, G. Herqni F. Gray and himself guarantee £3O to the bank, to be paid out of tlm first takings at the next gathering.. .--■■■■■ Mr Heron considered that as the accounts had been oiving so long they might wait till the New Year until the subscriptions catrid'in, At the same time he would mako one to guarantee the required amount, With due economy they should pnl through a!) right, ' I Mr Gray said he should be. very sorry to seo tho fjociety wound np, Tbey had been in a worse position on previous occasions and had got on' their feet again: He was willing to act with ilie gentlemen Darned, Mr Lowes' motion was then adopted.
ELECTION OP OFFIOERS. Mcsßm F Gray and W Stewart were nominated fot the office of President, A ballot resultingin favor of MrF G ray, that gentleman took the official chair, and in a few words thanked .the members present for the condiment paid him. . .
