All three took the first hurdle in splendid style but at tließecond Chatterbox refused to face the Bticks and ran off, being followed : by General Gordon, Speoulator kept steadily on and won by a head, the General, making a gallant effort to regain lost ground. Martinboro soon drew out aud led to the finish, Dolly being close : to bis heels, : A protest was entered by the owner of Dolly, on the grounds that Martinboro had ran off tho course. Pir;pis b m Deception) I. McKenzie's Waihora 3 From tho start, which was a' good one, Brookfield and Deception drew out, racing side by side the whole distance amidst considerable excite meht. The judge gave a dead beat, the result being that both horses wore paid out on the totalisator. As Brookfield had started a. hot favorite his backers had tho pleasure of lifting Isa in the £, Deception paying L2 Gs. Tiine3min s|sec. Welter Handicap, 15 sovs. Distance 1J miles. K, McKenzis'a General Gordon 1 J. Cross' Speculator ... ... 2 P. F. Tancred's Ahi 3 Mr Buckeridge's Chatterbox and Mr Sowell'a Brunnetto also started. The field kept pretty close order until turning into the straight, when the favorite oamo away, winning easily, with Speculator a good second, Had Speculator won, the result would have been somewhat phenomonal, as out of the JUIOB on tho machine, only a single pound was on him, Div, LI Bs. Lyford'sg m Dolly ... ... 3 Dolly got away with a lead, and led the field merrily to the home bend, when she swerved off and lost a lot of ground, Charlie taking the advantage and winning by half a length. Div L 4 lQs. Time 1 rain sees. Olareville Handicap, of 20 sovs, Distance about 1J mile, K. McKenzie's General Gordon... 1 J, Macara's Brookfield 2 J. Thompson's Kahummgi ... 8 Some difficulty was experienced in starting. Eventually on the flag falling General Gordon led Brookfield, further on again changing places with the latter, At about half distance they wore nsck and neck, this position being maintained until neat the finish, when General Gordon came out gamely under the whip, winning by a lenutb, Dividend, L39s. Time 2min 24isep, Forced Hahdipap, 10 sovs, Distance 1 mile, Eleven horses were nominated, but on the handicaps being declared, seven were scratched, tho starters being W Hutana's Martinboro, P F Tancred's Ahi, K. McKenzie's Waihora, and G Cooper's Sosrle, Martinboro was fraotious at the post, but without much loss of time the flag fell to a good Btart, Waihora making the running until the list bend, when Martiubovo put in his olaim and won by about three quarters of a length, Ahi finishing third.'
