This morning Mr John Brown, one of the partners in a flaxmill at ,'lie Fortification, beyond Malaura, while showing a new man how to feed the scutcher, allowed his own hand to bo drawn in, Tho arm was lacerated to above the olbow. The place was a long way from a medical man, and although Dr'Stockwell attended as soon as possible, Brown died in the train from loss of blood and shock, He was a young man. His relatives live at Strath Taieri.

The Ohamhor of Commerce have had under consideration tho question of the limit in size of maizo sacks, it having been complained that packages had grown beyond reason. A resolution was passed recommending that for the purposes of the maizo trade no bag should exceed in capacity four hußhels. The Chamber also intended to consider tho cause of delay in transhipment from one port to another of goods arriving in the Colony, but a letter woa read from Mr Houghton, local manager for tho New Zealpd Shipping Company, stating that they and the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company intended to place Auckland and Otago in direct monthly communication with the United Kingdom, beginniug in January next, Captain Colbeclc, tho President, said this might be t%n aa, nq q settlement of the question,
Anglican synod. DUiNEDiN, November 14. The session of tho Anglican Diocesan Synod closed this afternoon, It was resolved to place on record the appreciation of tho services rendered by tho Rev. W. Konaldson, now removed to Christchurch, It i was also decided to acknowldgo the velnablo services of the late Major. Dean Pitt, and to send a letter of eondolence to his widow, A resolution was passed that the Synod was favourably disposed to, thoparoobial districts permitting womon to serve upon church committees,
Agrioultural Show. Auckland, Noyember 14. The annual Agricultural and Industrial N Show, which had been abandoned for some yeats, wag again opened to-day at Epsom, under the auspices of the Farmers' Club, and was well attended. There was a large number of exhibits, especially in horses and sheep. Cattle, Bwine, and dogs were fairly well represented, hut many animals of excellent breed were shown in the various classes, The local industries section was only partly represented, A good display of horticultural exhibits was made,

Monro stated so the Baptist Union that the Auckland Ministers' Association, 'of which ho is a delegate, were fimnng the Government to prevent llio sending of liquor from this Colony to Earatonga, The Union passed the following resolution to-day by 19 to 5:-" That this Union affirm the desirableness of the introduction of, selected Scripture passages for reading primary schools, and .the inculcation of the Ten Commandments," It was decided to hold the next Conference of the Union in Wellington.
