Westfort, October 21. Tiio. 8,8 Charles Edward, bound from Motueka to Greymouth, met the full force ol the prevailing gales, and lay under Farewell Lighthouse for 12 hours.. Captain Whitwell decided to run into Westport, and arrived in the roadstead at 10 last night. She camo in at 5 this morning, When coming over the bar she kept shipping seas. One enormous sea pooped the vessel. The'deck house was smashed in, the railings, grating. and pinnacle carried away, the cabin flooded, and other similar damage done. , Arthur Earnshaw, chief officer, while , coming out of his cabin, was overwhelmed by the water, His tliigli was broken and his head badly cut and bruised. He was. taken to the hospital,
