(From Our Own Correspondent,) Tho Knights of Labour aro increasing in'numbers Yery rapidly. I am told that the number reaches to about 50, and embraces both employers and employees, A large number of people attended the skating carnival in the Town Hall on Saturday night, the antics of someoi theskatorial artists highly amusing the audience. Two billiard matches took placo in the ncr billiard room of the Eltetahunft Hotel on Saturday evening, The first one, between Messrs Woolfe and Stewart, resulted in a win for the latter gentleman. The second and principal match, between Messrs Selby and Hector, for a sum of money, 200 up, resulted in a win for Mr Selby. Considerable interest was taliou in this match, and a good depl of money changed hands over the event, Hector was being backed to win, but was easily defeated to the surprise of his backers, It was seen from the commencement that he had no show against the veteran,
A-meeting of the cricket club was to have been held on Saturday evening, but as there were so many counter attractions only three members turned up, No business was therefore done. In consequence of the heavy gales: prevailing here last week, a con siderable amount of extra work has been put on the contractors removing the building now in tha occupation 1 of tho TlrapQiy Company and owned bjMi'Mao'ara, Tho building,'in the l early part of tho week, was got to, the foot path; its proper site. Nothing
remained- but to ease it oil the rollers on to the piles. Unfortunately the wind shifted the whole structuro several feet. The contractors' state that it will now take two weeks extra labour to put it right. _ _ A considerable amount of rain is still falling here, and the weather is, cold.
