BALL AT GREYTOWN.

To gather two hundred and fifty persons inti tho Palace Hall, Grey, lown, in Bucli wild and wet weather 08 last night was an achievement to he proud of, and the Greytown Football Club may feel flattered at a result achieved by business-like management and' favoured by the confidenco tho ball-going public had in its powers of organisation and control, The evening was very entertaining. A good programme, of twenty-three dances' and a delightful floor, the latter tho product of successful combination of the ordinary mediums of sperm • and chalk, made the dancing at once easy and delightful,-. The music was at its best, Never have •we beforo listened to such sweet tuneful melody in the South Wairarapa, and the timo was excellent. On this occasion we may say the band excelled itaelf. The first two dances were played by the . en tiroGreytown Orchestra, subsequent ones by MrM. B. Vnrnham, clariowt (Conductor), Mrs M.' Wood, piano; Miss Wood and Mr Stowell, violins, and Mr Magnire, cornet. Several of the dance pieces struck us as being exceptionally well executed, The supper room was ably superintended with much patience and good nature by Mesdames Tully,McMastor, and Hodge. To these and to many other ladies who helped in the preliminary woik, llio Secretaries desire to give hearty thanks. The decorations, of tlio usual style, witli flags and evergreens, brightened the room and were well worth the labour their provision had required, The Greytown Football Club's banner (rather a modeßt one, by-the way) and several footballs were distributed among the other bedeckings in tasteful display, Two corners, screened by shady palms and converted into minature Edens, were much in demand among those of a reflective turn of mind, and were never unoccupied, Tliobad weather,' had of course, prevented many visitors from a distance attending, and Masterton, tfeatherston, and the Lower Valley were not so strongly represented as usual. A large contingent w»b present from Morrison's Bush, [and Carterton had, contributed the flower of its youth aud beauty. Daring the evening tho VVairarapa Busby Union Cup was presented to the Greytown Football Club by Mr W. 0. Buchanan, M.H.E. Mr A. L. Webster, the captain of the team, received the cup, and suitable remarks, supplemented by clieerSj were raado on eaoh Bide, The financial result of the dsnee is likely to be very satisfactory. Besides the outside sale of tickets, £lO 5s Gd was taken at the door in cash, It is likely that over £lO will remain for the Club's funds after all expenses are paid, Tho Masters of Ceremonies, wo previously omitted to say, were Messrs Amos, Inglcy, Lucena, and Tully. The joint Secretaries were Messrs Lucena and W. A,' Tate. Upon tho latter, he being close at hand, devolved all the trials, troubles and triumphs of tho office, Mr Tate was equal to the occasion, and put a wonderful amount of energy into bis undertaking, none of which was misplaced. So much did he do that had he, crowned with the laurels of success, and with the knowledge of a victory gaiucd, collapsed in sheer exhaustion, none would have won> dered who saw him work,
