The Wairarapa Daily. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1890.

Mr Jelliooe's speech on the labour question and his revelations of the sayings and doings of the Maritime Council are quite dramatic. In scene I, we get the lawyer, not the man, sitting in his den and interviewed professionally by the President of the Maritime Council. In scene II we get the man, not|the lawyer, discarding six and eight pences, offering his services to his Maritime client gratuitously (the cloven hoof sticks , out hero a little) and asking Jam, the great J. A, )l, to make him a member of the Maritime squash, 1 Scene 111 gives us the consternation 1 of Jam at 'ho overture of Jelly. Jam rallies under the blow, but is dumb founded when Jelly begins to Jepture him. Scen.e IV, Jam beoomes a little tart, and Jelly grows acidulous. Scene V, Jelly denounces Jam from the public platform, and the labour party wonder on which side their bread is buttered, or if it is jammed and jellied without butter, When patriots like Jelly and Jam, fall out there must be revelations, and the New Zealand Times is delighted with the cat let out of the bag by tho former, and will no doubt be ecstatic over the t pussy that Jam in his turn will release, The hopeless incapacity of the leaders of the labour party ja nowfully demonstrated, for did not they consult Mr Jellicoe professionally, and here is their own lawyer bursting them up from a public plptform, Let us drop the curtain on their foolishness | Wo will not join in the chorus of praise which will no doubt be lavished on Mr Jellicoe for exposing the hand of the labor party, as we are not sure that it was quite the right .thing for a professional man to do; but we welcome all be has to say against the illustrious J, A.M., and will be glad in due course to hear all that J.A.M. has to say against the lawyer of the Maritime Council. Tlie quarrel is a ' delightfully pretty one as it stands, and we should not wonder if many j honest working men in tho Empire i City, puzzled and possibly disgusted ' by tho tactics of the leaders of the j labor party, gave injtheir adhesion to , like Messrs Puthie and H.' D. Bell, men who are-won't Jo h trust- ; worthy, and who are pot mixe'd'up '■,

with the mischief that hashedl towed in this Colony during the N few weeks/'We now lijiow that these, precious twins, J.AtSI. and Jelly have dis'solved partnership; we have, Jolly's opinion of Jam, and wlien we get Jam's candid opinion of Jely, wo shall bo able to reckon up both.

We remind those pleasurably inclined of the dance in Greytown to night under the auspices of the Greytown Football Olub. The Palace Hall, which always looks well wi'h a large gathering, will probably bo seen at its best on this occasioa, for yory many porsonsfrom all parts purpose attending, An attraction to footballers also lies in the ceremony of formally presenting tho Rugby Union Cup to the Greytown Club by Mr W C Buchanan, M H &, Mr W Mursoll, who residos at Grey town, and is well-known throughout tho Wairarapa, has been appointed resident agent in Ohristchurch, and district agent for Canterbury, of tho Mutual Lifo Assurance Society of Victoria, He leaves shortly to tako up his new dutios, Mr Mursell, by his uniform courtesy in business and Irs good personal qualities, has made himself very popular in our district, and it is gratifying to know that although he will be missed hare ho is going to a superior appointmont,

The supply of milk to the several Wairaropa cheese mills is unusually largo this season, The main cause was aptly given by a friend of tho writer's in the epigrammatic and happily expressed remark that" grats is high and butter is low." The Dalofiold s factory is now receiving 1300 gallons a day. Last year at this time only GBO gallons wore forthcoming. Again, the Taratahi factory at present gets COO gallons The previous year's figure was about 300 gallons, It is expected that the output of cheese for tho sfiason will increoso at the Daliifield mill from 120 tqns last year to I<|o tons this, and at tho Taratahi null from 95 tons to about 70 tons.
