A Narrow Escape.
Auckland, October 18. A man named Patterson, a p.ab driver, had a narrow escape from drowning in the harbour owing to driving his cab and his horses over the side of the Queen-street Wharf into the sea, It was dark when the accident occurred, aud it is considered that the gap lamps blinded |he ■; man. ' Constables McDonald and McKay, accompanied by ■ the watchman, Griffiths, went in a boat to the spot where the cab and horses iell and found Paterson floating with his head- downwards and apparently dead, After considerable effort those in the boat, partially revjved him, and lie wp then brought to shore and taken to the hospital, whore he is progressing favorably. Iho two horses wero drowned. The cab'has been raised on to the wharf.
