went aboard direct from the steamer and left itnmcdiatoly for their destination. There was some slight hooting, otherwise everything waa very quiel about. There were IGO men in all.

On Saturday three Denniston 1 miners were fined in small amounts for assaulting men at the Waiman- \ garoa Company's minor which is uon- ; Unionist. Mr Moyniban,solicitor, in his defence, said tho Unionists' were totally opposed to any lawlessness during the strike, and gave an assurance that there would be no trouble at Denniston. Magistrals Kenny expressed his pleasure at hearing this, as it was as much the duty of a Justice of tho Peace to conserve tho peace as to adjudicate in cases brought before iiim. He knew a Committee at Denniston had informed the Inspector of Police that tho energies of the men would be directed to the uphold" ing of the law. Though there might bo .isolated eases of bad behaviour, probably the result of drink, it would not be fair to condemn the whole body in the community. Therefore Mr Moyniban said the leaders totally detiiod any intention to break the law, and had strongly advised the men to observe the utmost circumspection,
