[By Telegraph.] . Wellington, September 24. Tho Government havenot yet fixed ho polling day. Several registrars laving asked for an extension of time 11 which to purge the roll, Governnent are considering the advisability if complying with tbo same. If the equesfc is granted, the elections will lot take place until the end of Novimber, but on the other hand if the Government decline to accede to the ■equest, polling will probably .-take, ilace early in November. Jt is said that Mr H. D. Bell has abandoned his intention of contesting ihe seat for Wellington city. ■ Another labor candidate in' the lerson of MrC. 0. Colville is mentioned at Palmerston North. Palmersios Norm, Sept. 24, With regard to election matters, Mr Pirani addressed a public meeting at Shannon on Saturday evening, and it the close a vote of thanks and sonfidence was proposed. An amendment proposing a vote of thanks only tvas also put, but the original motion yas carried on the casting vote of ihe Chairman. Hayelocic, September 24, The candidates for the WimeaPioton seat, so far aa is known and rumored, are Messrs Franklin and Phillips, of Nelson; Mills, of Havelock ; and A P Seymour, of Picton. For Wairau Mr Buick opposes Mr Dodson, and possibly Mr S J McAllister; likewise for Nelson City Mr Kerr opposes Messrs Harkness and Hursthouse. Christohurch, September 24.
