Executioner number one Bovercdhis first head at a blow, mado an ineffectual but terrible cut at tho second, passed on to the third, and tb&yteturneJ to the second man and doßoorately sawed through his throat. Executioner numbor two did his work less barbarously; but he did not begin until the men of tho second line had witnessed the massacre of tlioir comrades otthe first, and he had to make a second blow at one of his victims.
