ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the Eketahuna Boad .Board was held on Saturday 'last. j Present—Messrs Maton (Chair, man), Fogden, Dowset and Ander. son. ; ::-.'v'-" : ' : '.''■':':.
The minutes of the previous -, , meeting were read and confirmed, m Correspondence was read as fol- w lows:— '■■■
From Bank of, New, Zealand, acknowledging receipt' of £IOOO, £4OO, £296, and From W.B.ObSnneflf. re works wanted done on.Central! Road; Parkvilla," Resolved; that Mr i King,*,be linstraoted to prepare'plans'and; call for tenders for certain works on :Nbl class road, Parkyille, to' the extent of £7O, tenders to close in brie month'. From'H.Aulin, calling the Board's >lf' attention to the cattle, pigs'; te, ■ trespassing on his section. Mr King stated that the stray cattle wero doing a large amount of damage to. the footpaths, it was resolved that the ranger be. instructed to pound a|l cattle found on the road leading to the Makakihi bridge, From J. B. White, calling.the Board's attention to tho state, of the road and culverts, leading to his T section. Resolved/ that Mr White
be informed that there is no funds in. hand for the work. V. .■'.■.";\' : -;y ■ General correspondence was read "'A from Ri Riley, the Colonial Clerk to the Board, 0. AY. Baggett,and Charles 'Monegao. ■' The' ; gentleman wrote complaining that he ■ could not f,et any bush fell this year as the plans of the road had not been completed, From Colonial Treasurer, ro adtanoo to Prom ' Commissioner of Crown Lands, hotifyng the Board - that vouchers had been received for all Ji payments except Beotion 3, block X> Mangaone, From F, Gannet, asking the Board to allow him to do work on road leading to his section, and stating that he was willing to do it at six shillings per chain, the amount to be deducted from- his rates. Resolved that the Clerk inform Mr Gannett that part of the road is not in the Eketahuna boundary and that the Board can only spend thirds .on tha road near his section.
A petition was received from ratepayers at Hawera, requesting tha Board to erect a swing bridge strong enough to carry sheep over the • Makakini river, Resolved that the"*):. engineer bo instructed to- examine"'* the site and report at next meeting of the Board. Prom ratepayers at Mangaone, requesting the Board to raise a loan of £IOOO under the Loans to Local Bodies Act to metal tho road, commencing eight chains east of Ooßgrove's saddle. From Mr Bayliss, Clerk to Board, requesting the Board to graut him one per cent, on all future. loans. At present he could only earn seven ' *Vshilling,- per day of .three days.per week, The Chairman:l think tho clerk • is very much underpaid, • A slight discussion ensued on the subjeot, Evontiially it was decided that the application stand over to next meeting of the Board, Resolved, that tho engineer be instructed to get totarav culverts placed in present formation between •
Parkville boundary, and section 61, Wellington S.S. Resolved, that the engineer bo . instructed to get tho line of road fell : on seotion 78 and others when ,<• deviation has taken place. L Mr Burbide wrote, asking tho W* board to fall roadline" past his Beotion T or allow him to fall tho line. If the ' latter, he would be willing to'wait for the money till tho Board was in funds.
BosoWod, that Mr Burbigo bo. informed that ho can' fall. the line at the usual rale of 8s Cd per chain, the .board to .pay at a future date, Mr Dowsett asked the Board if they would make the road to tho school site, as ihe Education Board !'J)L had refused to erect a school unless the road .leading to tho school waß made. No action was taken,
It was deoided to submit the question of wards'to the ratepayers as follows; On petition of two thirds .of ratepayers, Wellington Nol and Hutt Special Settlement as ono ward, with river boundary, two members. Wellington Ho 2 and Parkville, with rirer boundary, one ward, with one member, Eketabuna, north of centro . of Alfredton Boad, ono ward.with two members, South of centre of Alfred- < ton Road,ono ward, with twomembors, The Glork informed the Board that there were 845 ratepayers in the. riding. '
Resolved that tho next meeting of the Board bo held at 7 p m instead of 2 pm as at present. The following aoiounts were raßsod for pay'mont: -Woolf, £l6 18s; Sparksman and Co, £7l3s ;M P Brite, £9O; T Parsons, £18; D Shohyn, £6O; W Woolf, £49 8s; Richmond, £1 1b ; J King,£lol6s 8d; Aolsen,Bs,total,£24s 4s3d. The meeting then rdjourned.
