MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of tho above Board was held on Saturday last, Present—Messrs Beetham (ohairman), Dagg,' Brown, and MoKenzie.
The minutes of the previous meel ing were read and confirmed. Correspondence outwards am inwards was read.
.. Mr Bright waited upou the Board with regard to the road through his .property to Wadham and Deal's, stating his willingness togive the land required on the understanding that the road is so. located as to divide the property as little as possible. . It was resolved that the written consent of Mr Bright be obtained, Mr Cade waited on tho Board relative to securing a right of road through Maori laud. It was decided that steps be taken to usoertain the amount required to alte a rood under the Public Works Aot through Maori property to give Mr Cade access to his lan 3, and that application be made for a loan for the purpose.
Messrs Henderson and Skute made-application foe permission to use a traction engine on the Upper Plain road to draw timber. Jlr Ross attended in supportof the application.
The Board resolved to offer no objection to tho use of, the motor provided the tires ol tho traoka attached are not less than Gin in width, and tho proprietors will enter, into a bond to. indemnify the Board the cost of repairing any bridges whioh the traffic may damage and any costs which the Board might incur for damages for ' accidents ariaißgJfrom the use of tho maohine. The Boa.rd also resorved the right to stop the motor if the ordinary traffio was impeded or endangered. The Engineer was instructed to furnish an estimate of the cost of what is necessary to make South road passable, and report to next meeting. Witii regard to a communication from Messrs Henderson and Shuto re repairs to the road to their mill, it Mi deoided to reply that the injury done to the main line, which is mainly due to tho mill traffio will 1 absorb all tho.sunds available, and board regrets it has no more money to devote to the branch line. It was decided that a copy, of Mr Gordon's letter re a road through his section be sent to the TaratahiCarterton Eoad The Engineer was instructed to jay off work for a cutting on Upper Opaki road, and let it to Mr Jensen for £4,
Accounts amounting to £122 Os 8d were passed for payment. It was resolved that Mr HoSman bo paid at the rate of 6s per chain for felling and clearing the road line to Cade pd Harrison's mill. The rate of pay for laborers of the Board was made uniform with that of the"Wairarapa North County Council. ' Mr M, McKenzie, overseer, sent in bis resignation,. and it was decided that it be accepted subjeot to certain conditions.
Messrs Dagg and McKenzie were authorised to sign cheques. It was resolved that a portion of the balance of the £BOO and £2OO loans be expended in clearing slips, &c., on the Wangaeha branoh line No 1,
The resolution Spiriting th Chairman as Treasnfetf Was rescinded and Mr Moore was appointed in hi steed.
Mr M'Killop's application to take some limestone irom the road under Mr Druinmond's was granted. It was decided that the . work in connection with the £6OO loan to be expended on Wangaehu road be proceeded with and contracts let as soon as'jpossibipi The Chairman gave notice \o inove that the day of meeting of the Board be changed to the fourth Saturday in every month. - The meeting tlw adjourned,
