The ordinary monthly meeting,o:

tho Masterton School Comuiilteewi

held last evening. Prosont -Messrs | E. Feist, (Chairman), W. M. Easthope, Z. Hoar, 0. E. Darnells, H, E. Eton, W. Prangnell, andE.McEwon. The minuteb of tho previous ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed.

The Treasurer reported the receipt of £l9 from the Education Board, and a credit balance in the bank ol fills. '

CoMtESPONDENCE,

From Education Board forwarding vouchers for capitation. Eeceived. "* From Town Lands Trust, stating; that before further'grants arc made, a properly-audited account of tho past year's expenditure would have to he sent in.—The Secretary said he would forward the statement required. From Education Boards stating that Mr Turnbull would mako temporary arrangements for the eonvenI ienee of the school whilst tho alterations were being effected.

teacher's reports. . The head teuoher reported that the average attendance at the sohool for the past month was 443, aud the percentage 80. Ho would ask (bat supervisors bo appointed for a drawing examination to be held on October 4th. ' The Chairman and Mr Eton were appointed supervisors. Miss Keeling reported the average attendance at the infant sohool to bo 98, SIDE SCHOOL,

The Chairman explained that the discussion on the question had been held over from last meeting.

they should fill it in, He would bo inolined to move that the Education Board be asked to do something definite iu the matter. Mr Prangnell considered they should take no notice of what was said in the street, He did not think there was any necessity to fill in the hollow.. They could fill it up for very little, The question bad been raised as a "cuokoo cry." Tho question of widening the street was nothing. It would cost no more to fill in the bollow fit for a, playground than it would to plough and' smooth Macara'saore,'

Mr Eton was quite willing to accept the alteration,

The motion was then submitted as follows:-"That this Committee cannot but express surprise that;' the Board has taken no steps up to the present to secure a site for a second school, and that the Board' be requested to prcceed at once-with the erection of the school." Mr Daniells said he would not second the motion as altered,

The motion was thereupon seconded by Mr Easthope, who expressed the opinion that the erection of the school should be at once proceeded with. '

Huxtable at £2los per mouth being accepted, CADET FUND.

■ Mr Darnells thought it would be bettor if they acknowledged their sins and told the Trust what they wero asking for.

Mr'Daniolls: In using monies that did not belong to us. Mr bton oxplained that tho Mastertou school had £l4O last year from the Trust. Mr Daniells moved that in making application to tho Trust the Com' mittee explains its full position as regards the Cadet Fund, Mr Easthopo seconded, The resolution was put anc 1 carried,

Mr Prangnell moved that a deputation coußisting of the Cbairniau and Mr Daniells wait on the Trust and explain the position of affairs. The Chairman thought a letter from the Seorotary would meet the ease. Mr M'Ewen seconded the motion whioh was put and carried. ACCOUKTS. Mr Hoar was appointed visitin; member for the month.
