David Wood, 82 years of age, a porter has been sentenced to sixty days' imprisonment at Glasgow for obtaining money under falso pretences, The accused, who was in tho employment of an uphols erer, told his master that his child was ill. Next day he stated that tho child was dead, and on tho Saturday asked to be allowed to go home early to bury the btdy. His employer, believing the story, allowed him to stop work, and also, nave him seven shillings, which he stated he required to complete tho amount of tho funeral expenses, Un making enquiry afterwards, however, the employer discovered that the whole story was a fabrication. In passing sentenoe the Stipendiary Magistrate (Mr Gemmel) said the offenco was on of the worst that overcame before him.
