Mr Pownall appeared' for plaintiff, and Mr Bunny for defendant, Plaintiff claimed £3, the amount of a deposit paid on & cornet valued at £lO, which was afterwards returned on the grounds that it was not new, The evidence for the defence, which was taken at Wellington, went to show that tho instrument waejquiteneinvhendoltvered, and according to agreement. Seven witnesses were examined yesterday for the plaintiff, each of whom contended that the instrument was not new. Mr Pownall applied for an adjournment to allow the comet to bo produced. This course waaobjected to by Mrßuuny, who urged that a nonsuit should be ontored. The Bench, horever, decided in fa or of Mr rownall, and an adjournment was granted.

He secured patont righto for bis invention and submitted it to the inspection of the leading engineering and mechanical experts of the city, who oxpresaed extremely favorable opinions on its merits. Ho also by request displayed it in the Parliamentary buildings yeaterday and it was critically examined by a considerable number of legislators, who also endorsed the invention. The model, whioh is a beautiful piece of mechanical ingenuity, coinbiniu? strength with simplicity, enables one hnrse to exert the power of thirty horses. That meauß onehorse could put a pull of thirty tons on to a refractory stump, and the adjustments are bo simpl? and instantaneous that thoinventiun promises to remove the difficulties in clearing ground whioh have hitherto been experienced by bo many settlers, Otm readers will bo pleased to loam tha Messrs L.
