CONCERT AND DANCE.
A conoert and dance was held in the Town Hall, Tinui, on Friday last, fhfl day being fine. Visitors came from far and near, and long before the concert commenced, the hall was packed, many being unable to obtain seats. The stage was gaily decorated with curtains, banners aud flowers, and the decorators, Messrs Lawson and Wilson, deserve great praise for tho'excellent taste and artistic ability displayed.
The entertainment was opened by Mr R Maunsell, Chairman of the Town Hall Committee, who in a fow well clioson words said—" Ladies and gentlemen, tho performance this evening is given to raise funds to assist in paying for the handsomo pipo you' now see on the stago before you. On behalf of the Committee, I have to thank you for your attendance this evening, nnd to ask your kind indulgence on behalf of the performers, who aro all amateurs; and this is their first appearance before the public; I hops you will pardon any shortcomings, and any encouragement you can give them, will I am sure bo appreciated."' The following programme was then gono through :—Pianoforte solo, "Husomitt," Miss Owen; Song, " True till Death," MrLindop,; Song, " Golden Love," Miss Tatton j Song, " Eomauy Lass," Mr A. Cameron; Duet, " What are the .wild waves saying," Mrs Lawson and Miss Owen; Song, "Tho anchors weighed," Mr. Hancock; Song, " Why should wo say good bye," Miss Smith Sons; ''Tlib officei's funeral," Mr J, Grovee, Song," Moriarty," (in character), Mr Wilson ; Pianofoitosolo, " Fantaisig Marizale," Mrs Norton; Song," Maid of Athens," Mr A. Cameron; Song, " Close to the threshold," Mrs Lawson ; Song,- "Polly," Mr Lindop ; Song, "Neapolitan," Miss Tatton; Duet, - "Juanita, 1 ' Misses Owen and Smith; Song, " Tom Bowling," Mr Hancook; Song," The Englishman/' Mr J, Groves; The accompaniments were played by Misses Owen and Tatton, and Mrs Norton, The various items were exceedingly well given, and thoroughly appreciated by the audienco, Where all did so w»ll, it would be impossible to single out inyfor special mention, , the encores being numerous, and the entertainment an unqualified success; Over 150 were were present, and thereceipts were £lB.
The Chairman thanked the audience for their support, and said tho committee wert so pleased with the success ot the venture, that thoy proposoi giving another concert and dance, in ten weeks time,
The-hall was then cleared for dancing, and the floor very soou Occupied with about thirty couple. .Mr Hancockably officiated aa M. G., ■}h,e music being supplied by mesdames M.a'.donell and Norton, Misses Owen and Tatton, Messrs Lawson and Perry, ...
Danoing was kept lip with much spirit till 3 a,in, Everybody appeared toonjoy themselves thoroughly, the general opinion being that a more ■ sociable re-union had never bcenield.
