A NARROW ESCAPE.
Tho Mid-day Train Rubs Away. The Driver Thrown OSThe morning train from fellington to-day narro\yly escaped being wrecked. Coming down the incline near Cross' Creek the rails were very greasy, and the brakes, which were all put down, would not act, the result boing that the train ran away st a tremendous speed, As the driver was leaning over the side of.the eugino he was thrown off, but fortunately was not injured, The alarm whistle was blown, and the officers at Cross' Creek, taking in the situation, adjusted the points so that the train was run up an ascending siding, and a serious accident waß thus averted.
There were hot many passengers on the train, but those who were on the platforms realised thoir position, and were much aliirmef • The delay jto flip ' train was only about half an hour, aif'd it arriyed twenty minutes late at the local
