ATROCIOUS MURDERS.
A terrible murder was committed at Stockton-on-Tees early on May 11, thomurderorbeing caughtred-handefl, though not in time to save his victim's life. The criminal is a young man n'araed Frederick Terry, aged twentyone, who till a few weeks ago was employed under his father, who is a gasmanager at Croft.near Darlington. On tbo previous night Terry and a. young woman named Sarah Merry.

Merryweather, whose parents live at Northallerton, had been in domestic service at Stockton until a few weeks ago, Early in the morning loud screams from the room where the two had passed the night aroused the neighbors. Into the apartment and found Terry slashing furiously at the girl's throat. Without waiting to investigate tbo terrible affair, Lockwood dragged Merryweather from the room, locked the door on ; Terry, and ran with all speed for the police. On returning with- the. officer it was found that Terry lrad-made no attempt to escape. The young woman was dead. She had been slashed m a demoniacal manner, her throat, chest, breasts, cheeks, and the lower part of her face being scored with deep cuts, The room presented the appearance of aslaughter bouse from the quantity of blood that had flowed from the victim's wounds, Terry was of course placei under drrest, but he exhibits the coolest indifference with regard to his awful crimo, ■

derwds committed at Bradford, the victim being a woman about thirty years of age, named Annie Harrisoa, residing in Lord street, and her husband James Harrison, a man well-known to the police, wis the person who committed the deed. It appears that shortly after five o'clock. Harrisou went up to his wife's bedroom, and without saying a- word to her, dragged her out of bed and stabbed her with a largo oarving knife,. Ho then seized her by the hair, and afterwards dragged her downstairs into the kitchen, beating in her skull witii a poker. The murderer seemed perfectly indifferent to what had taken place, and when the policeman arrived on the sceno he calmly gave himself up. As he passed along the street he cqolty bade bis acceptances good mqrning. It is stated that the two people have led very unhappy lives,' an,d, that ho has on many occasions threatened to kill his wife.. His reputation for violence was sueh that none of the neighbors fared to. iuterfore, Harrison ha 3 been employed as a dyer, but he was discharged two months ago for .drunkenness.
