Mr Beard: I understand that the timber for the building has been' supplied by members of the Committee' ; if that is so Iwonld suggest that'"j: they retire from the Bench. '" Mr Beard here dxplained thatsuch ; were not qualified to sit on the Benob, and quoted sub-seotion : 11 of the Licensing Aot. He merely"mentioned the Act to caution the Bench that he would have to take steps, in the event, of a lioense being granted, to have it ' Bet aside in another court. Again,' the member sitting would place himself in a different position; and would : be liable to a fine of. £SO. It was absolutely impossible for the Benob to grant an adjournment as his friend applied for. The protest was that the building was not finished atifl'furnished on aocount of the wet weather. ; ,
