Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society.
The annual meatiugjof the above Society was held last evening,' Mr A. J.Bawson in tho ohair. •>
Tho report for the season 1889-80, which is as follows, was read an| adopted:—
"Your Committee have greater pleasure than usual in presenting their balance-sheet this year, as it shows a more favorable state of accounts thun for soveral seasons past. The annual overdraft whioh has existed for several years is now practically paid off. Your Commilteo attribute this in a great measure (o the reduction of the prize-money, This, however, was but slight, and tlje supporters of ; tbe Society,' evidently recognieing the efforts of the Committee to put the Society upon a firm financial basis, instead of withdrawing their support, gave additional assistance to the Society, as .is evidenced by the increased number of exhibits. The two past cihdws have, your Committee are certain, put the Socioty in suoh a position that they need not iear the future, and they confidently look forward to making the Society's Shows second to none in any inland town of New Zealand. Your Committee desire to express their special thanks to the Judges who acted at the Shows, and to Mr Easthope for again undertaking the office ol auditor. They also acknowledge the valuable services rendered by their Secretary, Mr Chennells.—W.G.Beard, President. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of 18s sd, the receipts being members subscriptions, L3B 10s; door money, Spring, L 27 Os 7d; Autumn, L2B 5s 9d; speoial prizes, LO Is 6d; entrance fees, L 8 15s 6d; the expenditure being.debtor balance last year, Llol2s fid; prize money, Spring, L2618s 6d; Autumn, L3l 8s Odj printing &o„ Ll2 19sld; Secretary, hi 10s; judges expenses", L 4 Osj labor L 89s 6d; sundries, L2 9s 9d; total—L99 lis 9d, Theliabilities amount to L 7 6s fid, and assets to LI7, leaving a balance of assets over liabilities of 19 14b 7b. '■ The following offioers were elected for ensuing year:—President, W.G, Beard; Vice-President, A, J. Bawson, re-elected; Secretary and treasurer, W. B. Chcnnells; Committee, Messrs Allpass.Berriman, Broom, T. Dixon, Fitzgerald, T. Gardener, Grusohou, MoSorley, Murray, dtone, eenr,, and F.H.Sutton,
It was resolved that Messrs % Everett and T. Osborne be elooted life members of the Society. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Beetbam calling attention to the necessity exists for lation in dealing with the oodliq moth.
