At the land sales held at the office o' the Wellington District Land Board yesterday, two large sections ol land in the Maiigaliuo and Kaiwhata blocks wore disposrdol-for ash, and under tho porpotual lease system in the forrnor block 780 acres wore Bold, 480 being disposed of to Mr J A J Murray, and 300 acres to Mr T Pattercou, The sales in the Kaiwhata block, amounting to 2544 acres, were as follows ;--U G Williams, 480 acres; fi (J Williams, 480 acres; F E Tatham, 800 acres; Herman Nitz, 824 acres; and Piripi Waaka, 400 aorea, A large number of applications havo ken received lor surveyed sections in the Apiti, Hunterville, Mangaone, Makuri, Onga and Puketoi districts. Mr W H Beetham presided. _ After considerable discussion the following resolutions wero passed: —" That this conference resents in the strongest manner the intolerable wrong inflicted upon this district by depriving it of local government in Charitable Aid matters, That it views with the Bravest approhelision the complete destruction of healthy private benevolence and the growth of pauperism which have ken brought about by the present unjust system of taxation without representation," " That a deputation from this meeting wait upon the Premier and ask that a clause bo introduced into tho Bill about tu be introduced into Parliament making a Wairarapa Charitable Aid Distriot co-terminus with tho Wairarapa Hos. pital Distriot."
