Alfredton Road Board.
The 'annual meeting of tho Road Board (adjourned) was held on May 20th. Present-Messrs Kebbell, Warren, J. Smith, H. Benton, S. M. George, and Eli Smith, The Returning Officer stated that Messrs Warron, Benton, and S, M. George were duly returned and gazetted as members, Mr Warren moved, and Mr Eli Smith seconded, that a vote of thanks be passed to Mr Kebbell for his services during the [past year as Chairman, and that he be again appointed Chairman. Carried, Mr Kebbell took the chair, and thanked the members for their expression of conndencoin him, and for the honor of again electing him Chairman,
Moved by Mr George, and seconded by Mr Benton, that the accounts for the last year be passed as read and confirmed, Carried,
The minutes of tho annual meeting were read and confirmed,
ORDINARY MEETING, The adjourned ordinary meeting of the Board was subsequently held, Present—Messrs Kebbell (Chairman) Eli Smith, H. Benton, J, Smith' Holmes Warren, andS, M, George,
Mr Henry Burling, junr, waited on tho Board tc sustaiu his objections to proposed road to be taken under tho Public Works Act through his property.
After hearing Mr Henry Burling, Mr George moved, and Mr Benton seconded, that tho Board resolva into Committee to consider the objections,' Mr Eli Smith moved as an amendment, and Mr Warren seconded, that the Board do not go into Committee; The amendment was put and lost. The Board then rosolved itself into Committee.

Tho Chairman asked Mr Burling if he was prepared to suggest a suitable road line, as mentioned in bis lawyer's letter,
Mr Burling said Barton's line be considered was the best. Ho was not prepared to propose any other line, Tho Chairman said then as a mattor of fact that Mr Burling did not propose any other suitable lino as Baxton's line would not serve the purpose proposed, and that the lino mentioned in his lawyer's letter had no existence,
_ Mr Burling said he bad no other line to propose, or allow the Board to take,
■ Mr J. Brannigan waited on tho Board ro crossing to his section, and stated that at present he had to go through Mr Good's paddocks, and he had notico that after next week he should have to go by the proper crossing, which was impassable. The Clerk reported that part of the money was rewired for tho cut* tings.
ltesolvod that Messrs 8. M. George and H, Benton bo appointed a Committee to go over Kid 'report on the lines, and if their report was favorable and the money in band sufficient, the Clerk make out specifications and tho Committee hare power to deal with tenders.
Mr A, Burling waited on the Board re road to his place. Mr Eli Smltk said £3 10s 9d of thirds had arrived and that he had a balance available from rates, fiesolved, that the 1310s 9d be usedin forming tho first 15' chains, and that the balance required for the work come out of rates,
Inward correspondence wasreadas follows:
From Bank Of New Zealand, acknowledging cheque for L 8 6s 2d. From W; J, Saunderß, re track to Bowlds 1 , stating that there wore holes in most of the bridges, had that tba nettles were closing tho track and wanted cutting. Besolved—That £5 be spent in opening up the track.
From Treasury, stating tbat 10 per cent on Ihuraua Valley Eoad loan, No. 2, had been sent to the Bank.
From J. W. Smith, re work done on track leading to his place. ■ Mr George was appointed to tee himrerame.
Tho clerk reported that some thirds were due on the section.
Resolved that L 3 be granted to repair culvert and ford leading to Mr W. J. Saunders,
Various accounts we're passed for payment and ordered to be put on payment sheofc, The payment sheet of LSI 15s Id was passed,

At a future timo a considerable amount might havo to be paid for the road, which would oventualy be requirod.aud he understood that Mr Girdwood intonded toclose the present trsck. Mr Macquavio moved, and Mr Saunders seconded, that the Road Board look into tbo matter and by some means to arrange wKfiMrGit'dwood to secure right ot road. The Chairman said he wonld be glad to see the road opened up, and would bo happy to act in conjunction with Mr Jhcquario is the matter. The question of metalling the Eketahuna.to Tinui road, or the forming and metalling the Mangamahoo road, was then discussed, and after somo considerable discussion Mr Kebbell moved, and Mr Warren, Beconded, ,"o?hat in tho opinion of Am meeting, the idea of forming -snd Ifeing the Manganiflhoe road bo allowed to drop, and, ondeavours be made to metal the Eketohuna .road." Carried.
The Chairman then read communications re traffic on road, from County Council as nffeoting tbo question of toll, and it was'decided to consider tho quostion at a further meoting. Mr Kebbell moved and Mr Saunders seconded, that a special meeting of settlers bo called for June 17th at 12 noon, to consider tho advisability of taking steps to raise a loan for metalling the Eketahuna road. Carried, Mr D, Macquarie moved, and Mr HcjAics Warren seconded "Thata vpfe of thanks be given to the Chairman for presiding." The meeting then adjourned.
