Beetharo was elected chairman (or the ensuing year, and in a few well-chosen words. thanked his colleagues for the, position in which they had placed hiiii. ' ■ ;': 1 COBRESPONDENOE.The following correspondence was read:— ' From Mr E. -Cade, suggesting MrPruzi be appointed surveyor on the Okuruputi road, The chairman Enid he had seen Mr Marchant on the subject, and he promised to sehd a suivcvor as soon as possible. At the samcf. time he suggested that permission bo obtained from tho Minister for a special" man, A letter was read from Mr Marchant intiraating'-thatMr Smith would Burvey the road on his return from Murumuti. The matter was deferred for a month. • From Air R. Gordon, asking oa ■' behalf of ' fiimselt and other residents of Te Wliiti* that repairs be made to the road from Wardeil's, It was decided to grant the requesUs soon as funds ■would permit. ■ From Mr D. McLachlan, applying for payment of £8 for felling half a chain of road line uear his property. It was resolved to make the payments as soon as the thirds wore available, From. Mr W; Warded, calling attention to a tree in the Ruamatunga river, which might do a considerable amount of injury, Received, From Messrs Joseph and Wright, agreeing to a road being made through their property at the -.Opaki for the sura of £lO, on certain" conditions': stipulated, _ It was resolved to acquire possession of Te Bangitumau road from Mr James Btuckey.

Estimates, It was resolved that in order that.the 'Board may form an accurate estimate of expenditure for the current year, with a view to strike a rate, instructions be given to the overseer that he make a thorough inspection of tho whole of the Masterton district, and ascertain the absolnte requirements and costs for road maintenance, and also possible contingencies, and make a full report of same to next meeting. That the amount advanced-to the late ■ Bingitumau' Boad; Board by.' this; Board be determined at its next meeting, and the necessary steps taken to acquire the thirds and fourths from the Government to recoup tho Board. AV" : : Iimii'DRAINS. '' Mr B, Allen waited on the Board in reference to the clearing out of i dvaitiß at Manaia, and it ivaa decided , to perform tho work on the usual , terms.

overseer's report. Gardiner's contract en Manaia is. all but finished. ChristensßnVcoh-. -, tract at the head ot the Opaki s*% obring and making pack tracks; is finished, but as the thirds out of which the cost has to be'met are not j yet to hand the payment can standi* over in the meantime. The work .' applied for by Mr" W, Harris at last meeting is completed, and that applied ; for by:Mr Hunt'has beta attended ' to. I have examined the ground and find that about five chains of metal, ling and three or four .chains of stamp-, ing will be required as well as some light general repairs, With regard to the road • line proposed to bo taken . through Mr Falconer's property to Mr Brigbt's section, I find that it would bo necessary to take 20 ohaing or two acreß of land from Mr Felconer commencing at the present road to the section mentioned, The land can be obtained for $0 including all olaims, providing the road already laid off to bo altered close to the river. By this alteration tho road would have 12 chains more of river front* ' age* whioh would rendor it mora liable to be washed away by.the freshes in the Waingawa. I havo put an extra man .on repairing generally where required, and fixing \'\ up the road for winter traffic, With M reference to the loans recently raised* for Dorset's road and Wabgaehu road the settlers interested are anxious that the works should be proceeded with at early as possible, aud as it n ill take some time to survey thei roods, prepare plans and specific*.- • tions, 40,, I would snggest that the Board instruct me to take the preliminary stepstowardsexcouting thework,

mCOHEB's KOAD. Sorao discussion took placa with regard to Mr Blight's application for a rood from bis property at the Waingawa at IWidge, through Falconer's, 'lt was explained that Mr Falconer required £6O for the land required as a road line, and that he objeoted to the road because it would destroy his river frontage.. The Chairrain was authorised to seo Mr Falconer and endeavour to get' the matter Batisfaoloiily arranged. It was resolved to write'to Mr Mawley re bis account. Special rate's, wero struck for the £6OO and ilOOyj loans and it was decided to apply for^ ; £9OO for road at Bagitaraan, Accounts amounting to£lo4l3s Id ' were passed for payment, and the raeoting. adjourned.
