Inveboakoill, May 16., Sir E, Stout opened a winter course of lectures to-night with an address on Federation. Owing to the weather coming on wet jast before the meeting, the attendance wbb not so large as it wild otherwise have been, The leoture was, in the main, a review of the methods of federation adopted in other oountrios. With reference to Australasion federation, Sir Robert Stout was of opinion that what tho colonics more urgently requires is a perfection of the present system of Government, v Donedin, May 16. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company have in contemplation the building of two extra oargo steamers to carry 50,000 carcases of mutton and 6000 bales of wool eaoh, besides a large quantity of dairy produce. These will be specially constructed for the requirements of Oamaru, Tiinaru and the Bluff.
