A combined praotico of the Masterton Club and the Stars was held on the Park Oval on Saturday, and although the weather was not propitious, a good game ensued,
A team of the Maaterton Club is to proceed to Carterton ou Saturday next to try conclusions with the Rivals. The following team will represent Masterton:—Back :■. Hirsobberg; Three-quarters: 0. Perry, Thompson, Owen; Halves; J, Perry, Hill, H. Perry; Forwards': W. Day, George Wolch, Mowatt,C. Bannister, Freeth, Stewart, W.' Welch, T. Wallace. Emergencies: Baolr, J. Wallaco; Forward, Eton.
TheTe Ore Ore Club sent their second team to Greytown on Saturday to play the Fire Brigade Club, and after a very close and interesting matob, a draw resulted, neither sffle scoring.
The return niatoh between the first of the Greytown Eire Brigade and second Red Stars will probably he played on the Park Oval next Saturday.
Two teams of the Wellington Club will be in Mastertoa on Queen's Birthday, and in view of this visit it behoves the first and second -fifteens of tho Masterton Club to go in for assiduous, practice The Wellington Club is one of- the strongest in the Empire City, having defeated tho Melrose Club on Saturday, and the Athletics a week or two before.
The Bush Uniou does not consider the treatment it is receiving from the Masterton Club exemplary. It was fully expected that the Eketahuna or Pahiatua Clubs would have been included by the Mastortons in their forthcoming tour.
It is not generally thought that the Whareama Ulub will join the Union this year, so that Owen and other members of that Club will be quite at liberty to play with Masterton in Cup matchos.
The first fifteen of the Oriontal Club journeyed to Oartorton on Saturday, and defeated the Eoyal Stars by a, goal, cleverly potted by Hathaway,to one point, The second of the Orientals were also victorious in their combat against Our Boys.
At a meeting of the. A match was played atGr&ytown on Saturday between Carterton and Greytown.' The latter won, by four points (a goal and a try) to one point (a try). Uru, a native, ; got both tries for Greytown and kioked the goal from one of them.. He played' a sound game throughout. Carterton try was gained by W. MoKenisie, after sonio really grand and at times brilliant play.

Tho adjourned meeting of the above Couucil was held on Saturday - *! Inst. Preseut-Crs H.R. Bunny jjL--(chiu'raian), W 0 Buchanan,' W. I '. Booth, A Matthews, H Braithwaite, J Mm tin, D Cundy, and W Wrattan. Tho minutes of tho previous meeting were road and confirmed, Tho Treasurer reported an overdraft of £5Ol 8s sd. The Clerk also gave a Btatenient in respect to the amount of rateable property, which was £1,400,000, which at a leviable* of 3-16ths of a penny in the £ would yield a revenue of £IO4O. v .' . \ A long discussion, ensued on the- '"fA aqtion'.of the Charitable .Aid' Board ■:", in demanding so much more from tho County for the enstiiog year than what was paid last year. Cr Buchanan told the Councillors that it was entirely the fault of tbo various local bodies throughout tho Colony that there was not au amendment in. the Houso last Bession in the Clwritablo Aid Act, and further stated that he had very littlo hope of achieving any alteration in the next session. . -;' ,
Correspondence inwards wjs read: • -From Mr Stevenson, declining the renewal of Lis lease for part of tho Hurunuiorangi reserve under the terms offered by the Council, unless vjj. the Council made tho house or gave him an extension of lease to make it worth his trouble in the out* lay. After a deal of discussion, it was moved by Or Booth and seconded by Cr Braitbw'nite, that he bo offered tho place on a 14 years' leaae, and that at tho expiration of tho terra he hand - over to tho Council the place with all v the buildings in fair habitable repair. Tho Clerk stated he had not received any reply from W H Sexton in reference to the renewal of his leass for the Hotel and his portion of tho reserve, After some discussion, it was resolved thatho he written to on the matter, and aakedif he had any offer to make to the Council, as his lease was expired, and if ho made no. offer the Council would, at their next meeting, take, such steps as they might think proper of disponing of the lease. From Mr E J Riddiford, complaining about the unsafe state of the punt at the feny in the Lower Valley. Cr Matthews'stated that ho was quito aware that the punt was not large enough for taking Bheep across'the ferry, but as to its being as bad as Mr Biddiford stated, he did not think it was, for ho had seen as many as a dozen roengoing across, the ferry in it at one time. After a~ good deal of discussion as to whether!" the Council was compelled to provide a purit for the conveying of Btock across the ferry, it was resolved to draw the attention of the lessee of the ferry .to the matter, and in the meantime Jasoortain if tho Council was compelled to provide a punt for the conveying of stock across the ferry.
Cr Matthews moved, and Cr Buohauan seconded, that the special order re levying a County rate be confirmed. Curried, A letter wng read from tho Featherston Road Board, intimating that they did not intend moving any further in tho wheel-tiro by-law. Tho Cduucil then resolved themselves into a committee to conbider tho request of the Clerk for a rise in his salary, The request was not acceded to. Tho Chairman and Crs Buchanan and Booth wore appointed a Commitiee to deal with the leases of the Hurunuiorangi Reserve. Some small accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned till tho second Saturday in August,' -
