Wliareama Football Club.

(From 1 Our Own Correspondent.) Timii, 29th April. A meeting of those .iutorested in mining a football club was held on Saturday, the 19th inst. It was ; locided to form a club to be called the Whareama Football Club. A' Comnntteeand officers were nominated, and it was decided to hold practice in one of Messrs E. and P, Maunsell's paddocks very kindly lent for the purpose. Between thirty and forty gave in their names as joining members. . On Saturday there was a match played atTinni, between tarns picked from Langdale and lea stations combined versus Tinui. The match was played in a very friendly spirit indeed ami resulted in a win for Tinui, by 6 points to nil (2 goals and 1 try.) Shortly after starting Hector Speedy, ■ who played a splendid game from start to finish, dribbled over the line, and drew first blood for Tinui. In the same spell James Owen,(an Otago rep) scored by a run right behind the posts, He was called upon to take the kick and kicked au undeniable goal. In the last Bpell Tom Hudson (a Southland rep) from a penalty kick,' placed a beautiful goal, the distance being half way,'No further Bcoring ensued, For Tinui, Owen, Hudson, Sid, Smith, R, Mannsell, and A. E, Ycnnell played particularly well; while for the losers A lick Stowart (an old "Wairarapa rep of whom special mention must be made, played like a trojari, as also did Austin Elder, Phil Andrews, G Innesß, Coburn, Reid, and Keith, The Whareama Football Club have the makings of a splendid team, and if the men can only lie got together for practice, they will be heard of in tbe future, Tbe splendid muster of players who turned up is a clear proof of the amount of enthusiasm that has heen at work iu the formation of the Club, and Messrs Hudson, Stewart, Owen, Mannsell, and their rnfnrtt, have to be congratulated on the success of their efforts. A fine afternoon, with a refreshing breeze, not strong enough to interfere with the play, marked this opening day of the Whareama Football Club. A goodly nnmber of the settlers turned out to view tho game. No doubt there would have been a greater attendance. of ladies and othors had the know j ledge that there was a match to have been played been more general, The'e were only some twelve or fif teen ladies to be seeq.
