Carterton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting i the above was hold on Monda evening. Present—K. Fairbrothc (Mayor), and Crs A Booth, V Viokeratnff, T, Moore, A McKonzie E \V Deller, and James liayliss. The minutes of the previou meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a debi / ■ balauce of £ol9s lid, and also laic kjOn the table the balance-sheet for tin half-year, together with t'n voters' list and the defaulters list Thursday, the 15 th day of May, 1890 was the day appointed for receiving and certifying to'the same, Correspondence inwards ;-Fiom Wairaraps South County, suggesting an early meeting of all Councils to confer on matters relating to thopresent system of the United District Charitable Aid, The Mayor suggested that this Council comply with the request, and join with the other local bodies in tli£ matter. This was agreed to,' From Groytown Borough Council, re joining them in procuring a stean; stone.breaker. Received, but lie action taken. , From Akaroi Council re Jubilee •4feb?criptions. Ordered to be laid on 'The table. From <T, Blomqvist, re an Arhoi Day for Carterton, and offering tc .supply the Borough with some trees which are to arrive at a very reason' able cost, and which would bo a ( great ornament to the town in a shorl The Mayor'thought that the 'planting of trees by the road side would not bo advantageous, as the streets were too narrow, aul beside the protection which they would require could not be done in the public roads. The offer wa3 declined with thinks. Tenders for romoving th? old town Hall were received. There was only one tonder for this job, that of Edwards k Co., but on account of the site not being definitely settled, the matter was deferred for a time. Some accounts were passed for payment, and the proceedings then terminated.
